Toddler Update: 18 Months

18 month milestones, baby gap style, baby milestones, baby outfits, baby update, mom life baby update, toddler update, 18 month oldsThe last time I posted one of these updates on Arya, she had just turned into what I was calling a “baby toddler”. Well — this 18 month toddler update is proof that my little is simply not a baby anymore! She’s a full-blown kid and with that new milestone comes SO many new lessons to learn. What’s Arya been up to? In a nutshell, she’s going places. Doesn’t matter that she doesn’t actually know where — all that matters to her is that she’s getting there fast! And what have I been up to? Chasing after a tiny human. Naturally!

They’re real-time proof that despite my efforts, she has a burning desire to run! It makes me reflect back on the days just before her first birthday. She hadn’t shown signs of independently walking yet, and I had given up on following her around with my camera trying to capture her first real steps. Then lo and behold, she just up and decided to walk literally 24 hours before she turned one! Flash forward to today and I would have to describe walking and running as her two favorite activities, in addition to:

  • Holding the dog leash when we walk Franco
  • Running down the hallway from the elevator to our apartment door
  • Taking her shoes off, so that she can try to put them back on herself
  • Pretend babbling on the “phone”
  • Giving hugs without being prompted
  • Standing at counter height and watching while I cook
  • Following me around and wrapping herself around my legs
  • Standing at my feet and demanding “Up”
  • Eating bananas, green smoothies, noodles, applesauce, fig bars, pasta & pizza
  • Learning how to brush her teeth
  • Watching Moana, Bubble Guppies, and Sesame Street (and repeat!)
  • Pushing her “baby” around in her toy stroller
  • Getting dressed — she’s wearing this dress from Gap in these pics!

One day out of the blue, she started screaming bloody murder anytime we even went near her Britax stroller! She would arch her back, kick her legs and hang onto the sides for dear life. Did I mention she did this in PUBLIC!? We live in Jersey City and commute in and out of NYC every day so when I say public, I quite literally mean in the middle of packed trains, busy city sidewalks, crowded Whole Foods stores. Aside from being mortified, I felt like there had to be a reason for the sudden outbursts. Turns out she no longer enjoyed being reclined! We’re now using the UppaBaby Cruz and have seen an immediate difference. She LOVES it! The Cruz is compact but has a full-size toddler seat and is built to match their developing size and curiosity. She can ride forwards, backwards, completely upright, fully reclined and anywhere in between!18 month milestones, baby gap style, baby milestones, baby outfits, baby update, mom life baby update, toddler update, 18 month olds 18 month milestones, baby gap style, baby milestones, baby outfits, baby update, mom life baby update, toddler update, 18 month olds 18 month milestones, baby gap style, baby milestones, baby outfits, baby update, mom life baby update, toddler update, 18 month olds 18 month milestones, baby gap style, baby milestones, baby outfits, baby update, mom life baby update, toddler update, 18 month oldsFrom the motherhood perspective, I feel like I’ve reached a new territory that requires some new resources. Work-life balance will need its own dedicated post one day, but for now I’m hanging in there. With a new job, a ton of new Mom Life partnerships in the pipeline and a commitment to enjoying family time, this month I’m tasking myself with developing a sustainable plan for accomplishing everything that’s important to me!

I’m also learning how to parent now that Arya is reaching developmental milestones. It’s not easy to balance the fun with discipline, the adventures with safety, and setting boundaries while also allowing independence. That sort of feels like its own separate post as well so stay tuned! Next on my list is to start exploring toddler enrichment activities around Jersey City — I’m so curious to discover which one we’ll love. Currently researching a gym class, an art drop-off program and a weekend movement class. She’s so active and loves to socialize so I can’t wait to expose her to some new opportunities to grow!

I am so excited to see another update and finding out about the new products you use with Arya! I have a 6 month old grandson and am interested in the stroller you spoke of for the future!

What do you think?
