Baby Update: 10 Months

Baby Update: 10 Months

When I was pregnant with Arya I made myself a promise that I was going to be vigilant in documenting each milestone and this month it’s her 10 month baby update! Something about her being in this world just makes me want to take a mental snapshot of every little detail — because I know that she’ll be grown in the blink of an eye. Looking back on her 10th month of life, I’m pleasantly surprised to discover that she is quite the little personality! She’s into everything she shouldn’t be, is full of energy for days, and has such focus and curiosity. I can’t believe we’ll be celebrating her first birthday later this month!

Sometimes I swear I look at her and her gesticulations and enthusiasm are proof that she’s having a full on conversation, even if it sounds like garbled baby nonsense. Hearing her say “Mama” or sometimes “May-May”, and actually know that she’s talking to me, is the literal BEST ever. She’s always got an excited “Dada” for when Rob walks in the door at the end of the day, and their little greeting routine is the cutest! As always, every baby will develop at their own pace, but there are a few easy everyday things that we’re doing now to help her learn to communicate and express herself:

  • We try our hardest to keep the baby talk to a minimum. Instead we talk to her with clear, simple, easy words — just a little slower and more pointed than normal!
  • It’s so easy to use slang words or quick shorthand, but babies actually benefit better when you name people, places, and things for what they actually are. This one’s harder with our on-the-go/out-the-door lifestyle, but we try to remember it when it comes to communicating directly with Arya.
  • We also turn mundane, boring routine things like changing diapers and getting strapped into the stroller into fun sing-songs like nursery rhymes! Arya loves it, and sometimes even tries to join in. Literally ANYTHING can be made a song — try it, you’d be surprised what ridic songs you find yourself singing even baby isn’t around lol
  • Repeat, repeat, repeat! I find myself saying sentences 2-3 times to help her understand more thoroughly, and from what my friends who have toddlers tell me, this also comes in handy when you’re answering the same curious kids relentless questions later on down the road lol
